Judge Kenneth A. Black
is currently assigned to the Los Angeles County Superior Court Family
Law Department, where he previously served for two years as supervising
judge. Judge Black has received seven honors for his work in the family
law field, including the State Bar Family Law Judicial Officer of the
Year Award and the Spencer Brandeis Family Law Service Award. He is a
contributing editor of The Rutter Group's California Practice Guide: Family Law and a frequent panelist on Rutter Group family law programs.
Commr. Etta O. Gillivan
(Ret.) served for a decade on the San Diego County Superior Court. Now
a trained mediator, Commissioner Gillivan serves on volunteer and
professional mediation panels. She has also been an adjunct professor
of law, teaching courses on ADR, community property and family law, and
is a featured speaker for CFLR's Nuts & Bolts and Family Law 101
courses.
Judge Melinda A. Johnson
(Ret.) served for 20 years on the Ventura County Superior Court, during
which time she was ranked as outstanding by the local bar association.
Judge Johnson has taught and chaired the CJSP family law class. Since
retiring, she has worked as a mediator and arbiter through JAMS. Judge
Johnson also teaches other family law courses, including CFLR's Nuts
& Bolts and Family Law 101.

Justice Donald B. King (Ret.)
is a former associate justice of the First District Court of Appeal.
Recognized as a leading family law authority, Justice King wrote more
published opinions in family law cases than any other appellate court
justice in California history. Among his many honors, Justice King was
named Family Law Judicial Officer of the Year by the State Bar; on his
retirement, the State Bar renamed the award the “Justice Donald
B. King Family Law Judicial Officer of the Year Award.” He is the
coauthor of The Rutter Group's California Practice Guide: Family Law,
and director of Rutter Group family law programs.
Richard Sherman
is a partner in the civil appellate firm of De Goff and Sherman. Widely
recognized as a premier family law appellate attorney, Mr. Sherman has
been involved in numerous precedent-setting cases, including Cheriton,
Terry, Bonds and Burkle. He is a fellow of the American Academy of
Matrimonial Lawyers, and was president of the California Academy of
Appellate Lawyers in 2004-2005. Mr. Sherman has annually been voted a
SuperLawyer and was one of Northern California's Top 100 SuperLawyers
in 2005.
